Frequently Asked Questions
-
No, you do not need a referral from a GP or obstetrician. As an Endorsed Midwife, you can contact me directly to begin your care journey.
-
Whenever you want to! The earlier, the better so that you can start experiencing the benefits of a known midwife in your pregnancy care. You can start visits with your midwife wherever you are in your journey, whether that’s later in pregnancy or after your baby’s birth. I will make sure you feel supported.
-
Because I am an Endorsed Midwife, many of my services attract Medicare rebates.
Antenatal & Postnatal: Eligible visits, including those at my clinic, your home or via telehealth, are rebated.
Rebate Amount: While there is an out-of-pocket gap, families often receive a significant portion of the fee back via Medicare.
-
Yes. My Endorsement for Scheduled Medicine allows me to:
Write prescriptions for medications like antibiotics or morning sickness relief.
Order and interpret routine blood tests and ultrasounds.
Refer you directly to specialists or hospital services if your care becomes complex.
-
Absolutely. Midwifery care doesn't have to be "all or nothing." I frequently work in partnership with local GPs and Obstetricians across the Northern Rivers. This "Shared Care" model allows you to benefit from the medical oversight of your doctor while enjoying the longer, relationship-based appointments and home-visit convenience of a private midwife.
With your consent, I maintain clear communication with your medical team to ensure your care is seamless and safe.
-
It means your emotional safety is as important as your physical safety. In our visits, this looks like:
Relationship based care built on trust and partnership: you get to know your midwife and she learns what is important to you. You don’t have to keep telling your story over and over.
Choice & Control: You are always asked for consent before any physical touch or procedure.
No Judgement: A safe space to discuss previous birth trauma or complex histories at your own pace.
Empowerment: We focus on "doing with" you, rather than "doing to" you.

While many hospital programs finish home visits at or before 2 weeks, I can provide postnatal continuity for 6-8 weeks (and sometimes beyond for lactation support). Medicare rebates for postnatal care are typically available for families with babies up to 7 weeks and 6 days old.
-
Absolutely. With 23 years of experience in lactation support, I can assist with breastfeeding, bottle-feeding, or mixed-feeding goals. These visits can be done in the clinic, via telehealth, or in the comfort of your own home where you feel most relaxed. You choose.

You can book a complimentary Discovery Call with Jess anytime by filling out the form on the contact page. Discovery calls are bulk billed and a chance for you to meet Jess, ask questions, and find out how she can support you.
-
Yes! Many families hire me for "wrap-around" care. I can provide all your antenatal and postnatal check-ups at home or in the clinic, while you birth at your chosen hospital. This ensures you have one consistent midwife who knows your history, even if hospital staff change during your birth.
